Committees

The following is a comprehensive list of SGA, Non-SGA, and Senate committees for the 2009-2010 academic year:

SGA Executive Board Sub-Committees

SGA Educational Council: “The Educational Council shall be responsible for voicing student concerns on medium to long-range educational issues and for working with faculty planning bodies and the administration on educational planning issues at Wheaton.” (From the SGA Constitution.) Please contact SGA Education Council Chair Jonathan Wolinsky if you are interested in serving on this council.

Honor Code Commission: The Chair of the College Hearing Board is responsible for running this non-constitutionally mandated and open committee. The goal of the group is to improve awareness and understanding of the Honor Code in the student body. Please contact College Hearing Board Chair Stephanie Funt if you are interested in serving on this committee.

Intercultural Board (ICB): The ICB is responsible for promoting multicultural events and awareness at Wheaton. The board also supports and coordinates the efforts of clubs and students to share their cultures and perspectives. Please contact Intercultural Board Chair Christine Stella Panzarella if you are interested in getting involved.

Programming Council (PC): “The Programming Council shall be responsible for social, cultural and recreational events held on campus.” (From the SGA Constitution.) Please contact SGA Programming Council Chair Natalie Allen if you are interested in serving on this committee.

Student Affairs Committee, Board of Trustees There are no requirements for membership. The Student Affairs Committee is responsible for connecting students to the Wheaton Board of Trustees and to offer student views and values to trustees. Please contact SGA Senior Representative to the Board of Trustees Shannon Ryan if you are interested in serving on this committee.

Non-SGA Committees

Balfour-Hood Advisory Board (BHAB): The BHAB is responsible for governing the Balfour-Hood building. Responsibilities include generating policies for the building, coordinating activities, and undertaking improvements to the building. The committee is chaired by Daren Caprichio of the Student Life Office. To join, contact SGA President Gabe Amo.

Budget Advisory Committee (BAC): The BAC is the President’s advisory committee on all matters concerning the college budget. The BAC exists as a place to voice all the interests of groups on campus and to address college expenses. Membership is limited to three students. Please contact SGA President Gabe Amo if you are interested in serving on this committee.

Educational Policy Committee: This is the committee that determines academic policies for the school. The Education Council Chair serves on the committee, along with at least one other student. Professor Darlene Boroviak chairs this committee. Please contact SGA Educational Council Chair Jonathan Wolinsky to learn more about this committee.

Committee on Admission & Academic Standing (CAAS): CAAS hears petitions and requests from students on matters concerning their academic standing and process at Wheaton. Two students sit on the committee, and they are expected to keep all academic matters strictly confidential. Please contact SGA President Gabe Amo if you are interested in learning more about this committee.

Provost Advisory Committee: As one of the College’s newest committee, the Provost Advisory Committee is designed to welcome, entertain and consider student concerns about the Wheaton educational experience. Provost Eisenmann and SGA President Gabe Amo will Co-Chair the committee. If you are interested in serving on this board, please contact SGA President Gabe Amo.

SGA Senate Committees

Senate Appropriations Committee (SAC): Seven Senators, chaired by the SGA Vice President with the SGA Treasurer serving as a non-voting member. The SAC is charged with appropriating the $15,000 dedicated to the Senate for the year to ventures by those on campus. Appropriations are usually made on an application basis and must be approved by the whole Senate. Please contact SGA Treasurer Sasha Kim if you are interested in serving on this committee.

Senate Finance Committee: Four Senators with the Treasurer acting as chair. The Finance committee is responsible for serving as the tier committee to appropriate funds to clubs in the fall. It also conducts audits of clubs and has the power to sanction clubs with the approval of Senate. Please contact SGA Treasurer Sasha Kim for more information.

Senate Committee on Selection: Three Senators, the Intercultural Senator, the SGA President, and the SGA Vice President as Chair. The Committee on Selection is charged with selecting the seven Senators to be appointed on an application basis, and for filling any vacancies throughout the year. Venture Fund Committee: Three Senators with the Treasurer acting as chair and a representative from the office of Student Life. The Venture Fund is responsible for appropriating money earned through vending machine sales on campus. The committee hears proposals from members of the Wheaton community, and decides on funding them. Click here for a Venture Fund Application.

Senate Housing Action Committee: Two to four SGA Senators are members with the Vice President acting as chair. Any additional students may also be members. The Senate Housing Action Committee is responsible for “addressing the issues that affect students’ overall well being in residence halls.” (From the SGA Constitution.) Food Advisory Committee (FAC): The SGA Vice President serves as chair. There is unlimited membership, but it is open to all Wheaton students. The FAC is responsible for relaying student concerns to the food service provider and for working towards solutions to student concerns.
