Blame it on the ah-ah-ah-alcohol

By admin

Hello All!

As some of you many know, this week in senate the big ticket topic of discussion was alcohol policy and how it pertains to off campus residences. Students engaged in conversation with senate, each other, and Deans to find some common ground on the understanding of the alcohol policy for those off campus. The dialogue was quite fruitful. If you have any questions you can contact your dorm senator, Dean Williams, or attend President Crutcher’s office hours.

The rest of Senate’s agenda for the evening includes the following fun bits:

Senate Announcements:

  1. AAC presents Kelly Tsai, Nov. 18th @ 7:40pm in Balfour Atrium
  2. Roosevelt Institute is seeking to do a panel discussion on the Incident relation to the Pride Flag as well as bias related incidents in general. Please contact Chris MacDonald by November 13th to be on the panel discussion.
  3. iSpeak presents ARTiculation, Nov. 23rd @7pm in the Experimental Theater (Watson). Check ill performances from both ARTiculation and iSPeak!

Executive Board Updates:

  1. Food Advisory Committee meets Thursday in the cafe at 7:30pm with John Bragel. If you have a say on the food around campus please come with ideas, questions, and ears to listen.
  2. Honor Code Commission is meeting Nov. 20th @ 11:30 in the SGA office. (BTW: The alcohol policy relates to the social aspect of the Honor Code!)
  3. Soon you will be seeing snowflakes for a dollar around campus to support Christmas is for Kids and the Cupboard of Kindness food pantry (courtesy of KLMC, KGBW 26/28, & the WAMs)
  4. Vegas Night is next weekend! Come enjoy Vegas themed fun complete with responsible drinking (for those 21+) and food!
  5. If you have any awesome large scale ideas to change Wheaton check out the Vision 2014 goals.

Senate Did What?

  1. This week senate also passed a resolution to change the procedures for bias related incidents. The change in the procedure calls upon help from the campus in educating and creating a safe space.
  2. It ain’t easy being green, so let Eco Reps teach you! If you want to be an Eco rep you can snag an application off the SGA website or shoot an email to Rebecca Procter, Khadiyjah Jordan, or Gabe Amo and they’ll hook you up with an application.

Don’t forget Senate meets the same time and place every week. In case it slips your mind, it’s Tuesday @ 7pm in the SGA office.

Deuces,

At the end of slavery

The Battle for Justice in our Time

The Battle for Justice in our Time

Around the world, people will simultaneously be viewing “At The End of Slavery” on November 14th. The International Justice Mission along with KGBW Quad is showing the film @ 7PM in the Old Game Rm/Conference Rm in Balfour. The 30 min film will be followed by a discussion.

ABOUT THE DOCUMENTARY:

Narrated by actor Danny Glover, At the End of Slavery: The Battle for Justice in our Time takes you inside the violent and ugly business of modern-day slavery — the buying and selling of human beings — from the brothels of the Philippines to the brick kilns of India.

Undercover footage and first-person testimony from former slaves and respected experts expose the enormity of the crime — but a remarkable strategy and the courage of today’s abolitionists offer hope for a final end to this brutal trade.

Shot on location in the Philippines, India, Cambodia and the U.S., At the End of Slavery takes you to the frontlines of today’s battle for justice and includes true stories of former slaves and undercover footage from police operations to rescue children from brothels. International Justice Mission’s investigators, lawyers and social workers and their clients, along with other leading abolitionists and anti-trafficking experts, show that there is nothing inevitable about slavery. Law enforcement success in finding and rescuing victims, and prosecuting perpetrators, demonstrates the real possibility of an end to this trade.
